Whats Going on With the ACT Essay A Synopsis of Recent Issues with ACT Essay Scoring

In September of 2015, changes were made to the essay on the ACT. The essay now has a new system of scoring. In addition, students are asked to approach the essay in a different way than in previous years. There have been some issues that have come up as a result of these changes. Learn the specifics about some of the changes relating to the ACT essay: Differences Between the Old ACT Essay and the New ACT Essay On the old ACT essay, students were given a prompt and asked to take a stand on a particular issue. The new version of the essay gives students a prompt that outlines an issue and offers three perspectives on it. Students must analyze the issue as well as offer their own perspective on it. In addition, they are asked to describe the relationship between their perspective and the ones offered. Students are given 40 minutes to finish the essay, whereas they were given just 30 minutes on the previous version of the test. As a note, a student’s essay score is not affected by the stance they take on the given issue. The Old ACT Essay Scoring System vs. the Current System On the old ACT, students could score from two to 12 points on the essay. A student’s essay was read by two graders each of these graders gave an essay a score ranging from one to six. The two scores were combined to determine the total amount of points. Today, students can score from one to 36 points on the new ACT essay. Graders evaluate several aspects of an essay, including its organization, language use, development, support, ideas, and analysis. This new scoring system is designed to reveal more information about a student’s specific writing skills. What Sorts of Issues Are Occurring With the New Essay Scoring System on the ACT? One of the recent issues with the new ACT essay scoring system involves students reporting unexpectedly low scores on the essay. Some students are performing well on every other part of the ACT but are getting a low score on the essay, and teachers and school counselors who know the capabilities of their students are questioning these low essay scores. This issue is prompting some students to request that their essay be re-scored. Another issue with the ACT essay has had to do with timing. Some students who took the ACT in September of 2015 applied to college via early decision or early action. Generally, the deadline for early decision applications is in November and the deadline for early action applications is usually in November or early December. In some cases, ACT essay scores were delayed, making students wonder if their application would still be eligible for early decision or early action. What Options Do Students Have Regarding Their Essay Score? Students who don’t agree with their ACT essay score can request to have their essay re-scored. They must make this request in writing within three months of getting their score. There is a fee of $50 to have an essay hand-scored. It takes up to five weeks to get the hand-scoring results. If an error is found, the updated scores are sent out to the student as well as others who received the original scores. Also, a student’s re-scoring fee is refunded. Tips for Writing an Effective ACT Essay One of the most effective ways students can prep for this section of the ACT is to write a practice essay. It’s a good idea for a student to time the essay-writing process so they will be able to finish in the allotted 40 minutes. Death Of A Salesman

Death Of A Salesman- Overview Essay Death of a SalesmanCrazy WillyWilly Loman is one of the most tragic heroes in American drama today. He has a problem differentiating reality from fantasy. No one has a perfect life. Everyone has conflicts that they must face sooner or later. The ways in which people deal with these personal conflicts can differ as much as the people themselves. Some insist on ignoring the problem as long as possible, while some attack the problem to get it out of the way. In the case of Willy in Arthur Millers, Death of a Salesman, the way he deals with his life as a general failure leads to very severe consequences. Willy never really faced his problems in fact in stead of confronting them he just escapes into the past, whether intentionally or not, to those happier childhood times where problems were scarce. He uses this escape as if it were a narcotic, and as the play progresses, we learns that it can be as dangerous as a drug, because of its ability to addict Willy, and its deadliness. Willy is like an impetuous child who uses dilutions to escape his problems. The first time Willy is seen reminiscing is when he encounters Biff after arriving home from work. The conversation between Willy and Linda reflects Willys disappointment in Biff, and what he has become, which is for the most part a bum. , Willy Biff is a lazy bum;. After failing to deal adequately with his feelings, he hallucinates into a time when things were better for his family. It is not uncommon for one to think of better times at low points in their life. This is used as a defense mechanism so that they are able to deal with the problems they encounter, but Willy Loman takes it one step further. His refusal to accept reality is so strong that in his mind he is transported back in time to relive some of the happier days of his life. He gets taken back to a time when no one argued, a time when Willy and Linda were younger, the financial situation was less of a burden, and Biff and Happy enthusiastically welcomed their father back home from a long road trip. Willys need for this drug; is satiated and he is reassured that everything will turn out okay, unfortunately for the Loman family things are not that simple. In many instances in the play Linda actually has to snap; Willy out of it. The next flashback occurs during another discussion between Willy and Linda regarding the payments on the car. Willy is depressed about his inability to make enough money to support his family, his looks, his personality and the success of his friend and neighbor, Charley. My God if business doesnt pick up, I dont know what Im gonna do!;, is the comment made by Willy after Linda figures the difference between the familys income and their expenses. Before Linda has a chance to offer any words of consolation Willy blurts out Im Fat. Im very;#8212;foolish to look at, Linda;. Willy once again has managed to destroy his reality and is starting to come to terms with actual reality. His next dilution is he being visited by a woman with whom he is having an affair. He created this woman in his mind to boost his self esteem although very prevalent to Willy to the action in the play the woman does not exist. She raises his spirits by telling him how funny and loveable he is, saying, You do make me laugh. And I think youre a wonderful man. .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc , .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc .postImageUrl , .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc , .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc:hover , .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc:visited , .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc:active { border:0!important; } .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc:active , .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u18cf6b14f0f0434843f8e096e567e3bc:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Physical Fitness (557 words) Essay;. This is probably the most serious blow he takes in the entire play, because of his pride in his work. In fact this is such a big hit, that he

Role Modelling

Question: Build trust, confidence and respect of diverse groups and individuals through positive role modelling and effective communication and consultation. Answer: Bounce fitness is an Australian based fitness centre, which has its head office, is currently in Cairns, Queensland. It has a total of four-fitness centre. It was founded in the year 2001 and established its new centres in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in 2004 (Fitzsimmons and Fitzsimmons 2013). In this assignment, the strategic planning of the management, strengths and weakness of Bounce fitness is to be discussed and evaluation will be made based on that. The current strategic planning of Bounce fitness shows that it has centralised system of management in which every centre has a centre manager and every centre manager reports to the reports to the chief executive officer (CEO) of Bounce fitness who sits at the head office in Cairns (Berman and Evans 2013). Therefore, it can be said that the proper leadership and strategic direction is implemented by delegation of authority by management. The main job of the fitness instructor is to provide fitness training to their members wher eas the main function of centre manager is to look after all the aspects of the centre that may be administrative, financial and management (Christopher 2016). Both of them have their individual roles and responsibilities are linked in such a way that organizational objectives, standards and values are achieved. The management of Bounce fitness believes in giving quality services. Therefore, a lot of time is invested in training their centre staff to update their skills in providing professional customer service to increase the base of loyal members. It has developed a new choreographed fitness training session, which is accompanied by music to varied needs and goals of team member (Kaplan and Atkinson 2015). This shows the level of commitment of Bounce fitness. In order to build trust and respect among the team members, management must focus on the interpersonal relationship among the various levels of organizational structure i.e. fitness trainer, centre head and CEO (David and Da vid 2016). If proper communication is there like face to face or video conferencing between them then they will not hesitate to interact with each other and a level of confidence will build among them. The management of Bounce fitness must conduct meeting with the centre head and executive officers in the head office the drawbacks and strength of their organization. Then if required they must implement new policies, rules and regulation for the betterment of the organization (Kerzner 2013). They must also focus on the advertising strategy of the company to attract new members. The advertisement must focus on the various types of training sessions to showcase their versatility. In Bounce fitness, training session is coupled with fitness equipments which are state of arts to for persons who love resistance training and aerobic workouts. There are also free weights for lifters. A new technology introduced is fitness moves choreographed with music to cater the increasing needs of the me mbers (Burke 2013). This entire service needs experienced professional and dedicated work activities to fulfil its objectives. In order to ensure that people comes to know about their flexibility and adaptability to changes they must implement a good marketing and advertising strategy to reach maximum number of people. They should use social networking sites to promote their organization among the youngster (Dellinger et al. 2012). They must promote their fitness centre in such a way the person who have health related issues, which can be solved through proper training session must be encouraged to join their fitness centre. Whenever a decision has to be made management of Bounce fitness must analyze all the pros and cons of the new decision and only if it is found to be feasible, must be implemented. Before taking any decision, CEO of Bounce fitness must compare it with other competitors in the industry to understand whether it is best in the industry or not. Risk management is very important for essential planning of business strategy. Management must make provision for risk mitigation, risk prioritization risk mitigation and risk transfer prior to any decision making. All the decision taken must be within a projected period so that Chief finance officer of the organization can calculate the net present value from the expected proposal. Dealing with media is very tricky as media can give a good picture of our organization as well as ruin it. So whenever any interview will be given by the top executives of Bounce fitness they must decide it previously what are positive factors that needs to be addressed (Armstrong and Taylor 2014). While negative factors if any which can affect the impression of the organization is to be avoided as much as possible from getting the lime light of media. While assigning work to respective teams, management must take into consideration the efficiency level of the team members. Work must be assigned to a team, which can best perform it, and not to any other team. This way productivity of each team will increase which will result in the overall improvement of the performance of Bounce fitness. Proper allocation of work will increase the efficiency level of the team and help the organization to achieve their goals and objectives. Delegation of authority is very important for an organization, which has multiple centres all over the country because it is never possible for a person to travel to every place regularly and look after the affairs of the centre. Therefore, various post have been made like fitness instructor, centre head and executives so that lower level staffs are responsible for reporting to his upper authority, who are also responsible for reporting to their top management (Gillespie 2015). This way the top management will be able to control the entire organizational level. In order to create and maintain a positive environment management of Bounce fitness must look after the satisfaction level of their staffs and hygiene of the work environment. It can be said that they have maintained their hygiene by regularly cleaning their toilet, they also have a cafeteria, proper ventilation and air-condition. In addition, top management must behave properly with the lower levels staffs and try to communicate with them so that no gap occurs between them, which can adversely affect an organization.Management must introduce incentive schemes in which the centre head and trainers will be given benefits depending upon the numbers of loyal members they can attract and retain. This way motivation level of employees will also increase. Employees must be ensure by the top management that their job is secured with this organization and if the performance level fluctuate then sometimes they will be given ample opportunities to prove themselves and not sacked immediately. They should also be given proper training session to improve their skill and proficiency. Ethical conduct in world place can help employees to benefit in their career. Employees of Bounce fitness should behave properly in a good tone with their seniors, subordinates and members who come for training. They should properly dress up and come to the fitness centre on time. Management should take measures for the safety and well-being of the people present at the fitness centre at the time of any disaster (Judge and Burke 2015). Employees should follow all the rules and regulations set by management as organizational policies. General manger of Bounce fitness is concerned about the goal congruency of the fitness centre as all the centre heads are only concerned about their own centre and the expenditure that is beyond the budget. Management of Bounce fitness should treat all the fitness centres as cost centre and not profit centre and focus on the maximization of profit Bounce fitness and not individual fitness (Gillespie 2015). A meeting should be conduct where along with t he top executives of Bounce fitness all the centre head must be present where general manager must make them understand that overall goals and objectives of the organization is much more important than their individual aims. Therefore, all the centre heads must interact and coordinate with each other to maintain the capital expenditure within budget and aim for goal congruency.General Manager human resource is concerned about the communication skill of Marion Stevens, Administrative officer. So he should approach her very moderately and make her understand that she had great potential and if she takes proper training on how to communicate with others then she will able to achieve great heights in her career. She should be given training on how to gel up with centre heads and work as a team to achieve organizational goals. She should be trained how to motivate her team members with inspiring speech and active body language. Since she had poor communication skills and has alienated w ith some of the centre heads and her peers. She always maintains a distance from colleagues and just dictate what is going to be done without motivating the team members. Paul want to unify the two department sales and claims so he has to keep in mind that even though he put this two department together he has to set different teams to handle works related to sales and claims respectively. Even though two departments is inter related the job role is different from each other and persons who are efficient in their respective jobs must be allocated that task only If john performs this way then it will definitely give boost to his career. He is well educated and so if his efficiency level is high then he will be in the lime light in very short period and will be promoted to higher authority. He should inspire the older and more experienced workers and talk with them in a very polite tone. He should not behave as if he is senior to them and give orders since this can have a negative imp act. By this way, he can be a good supervisor. He must try to work as a team member without thinking that he is superior to them and as a leader; he should lead from the front, inspire and motive his team members for better performance. The relevant fact is that Lucy has failed the lie detector test and had have handled the banking during this period. Ethical issues related is that information given by Lucy are not the same which she has given to her previous employer. Primary Stakeholders are Martin Saunders, Assistant Manager and Jacinta Scotts, Centre head and Lucy in this case. Possible alternative is to dismiss Lucy is that she had not supplied genuine information as per the company rules. To dismiss an employee based on mere suspect is not ethical from the viewpoint of organization until and unless it is proved because stealing, money is a major issue. The ethical issues relating to Bounce fitness currently is stealing of money. However, it has a code of conduct which sets out guidelines but it does not have a code of ethics, therefore it should implement one. The code of ethics should state that if any employee is found guilty of stealing money or indirectly involved in it then he / she will be immediately terminated and will be handed over to police (Northouse 2015). Even if someone is suspected to have, stole cash backed with proper evidence then that person may be suspended at the opinion of management unless it is proved that he/she is innocent. Paul should at first try to get along with this new person, Jim for sometimes since every individual have a different perspective and the theory of professionalism says that employees should not bring their personal issues to professional field. Therefore, Paul should try to adjust himself with the new environment because generally it takes times to adjust with new peoples. However, if he is able to adjust even after a long period he should take firm decision of resigning or any alternative decision since j ob satisfaction is the most important thing in professional life.Paul must approach Jim in a very polite manner and tell him that appointing someone in his place is not personal at all. It is only for fulfilment of overall objectives of the organization. As a leader, Paul should encourage him for maintaining the code of ethics so that he doesnt misbehave with the management (Goleman, Boyatzis and McKee 2013). Moreover, Paul should make him understand that he should follow all the relevant legislation which says that organization can bring someone else in place of an existing employee for the betterment of the organization. In this case, the manager may follow charismatic leadership where he can politely make the employees understand the reasons of shortfall and motivate them to improve their performance. Democratic leadership can be applied as every employee gets equal right to give his or her feedback and opinion.Laissez faire leadership is perfect here as team has enough knowledge and experience to take the right decision regarding how to allocate shifts. Bureaucratic leadership must be followed, as the manager here needs to take some preventive measure in order to maintain coordination in workplace.Compliance Manager should try to find out the exact reason for this sad incident by hiring a proper technician. If possible, compliance manager should try to replace the old sauna with a new one. Otherwise, he should mend the old one so that all parts are in good condition and such incidents will not repeat again. After completing the survey, it has been concluded that the skills on which a leader should be more focused are: Betterment of his dictating skills a little bit. He must be stricter towards his employees in order to get his job done within deadlines. A leader should look into the fact that whether his employees are getting all the facilities they deserve when they are in my centre (Goethals et al. 2014). Whether they feel comfortable and safe while workin g in the fitness, centre or not is also to be taken care by a leader. Leader should first evaluate and monitor each employees performance properly and then allocate him or her task according to his or her capabilities. If Centre manager have received complaint that the centre was not opening at the exact time in the morning he would call the administration team who has been given the responsibility to arrive early every morning and open the centre and ask them the reason why they has failed to open the centre at the scheduled time. He would assess the reason given by the team and then give them a second chance to rectify their mistakes. If it works and if he doesnt receive any further complaints, then its goo (Aaker and Joachimsthaler 2012). However, if opposite happens then hewould fire my admin team and hire someone else immediately. References Aaker, D.A. and Joachimsthaler, E., 2012. Brand leadership. The books center on the tumultuous journey of strong and passionate men and women, in their fight for love, happiness, dreams and ideals. The protagonists, mainly women, create prominent ripples in the sagas, they bring with them a sense mystery and intrigue. In the engaging novel ‘The House of the Spirits’ by Isabelle Allende, instances of human compassion are plenty. Beginning with the youngest of the Del Valle family Clara the clairvoyant, who on the surface appeared to be an innocent and demure girl, but inside was a determined, supernatural soul. The strongest evidence of the immeasurable positive change she brought into people’s lives was seen at her funeral, it brought people from the far reaches of where her love and care had reached. Clara’s husband wrote â€Å"poor people, students, labor unionists, nuns, mongoloid children, bohemians, and spiritualists – came to pay their respects.† During her lifetime she acted not only as the thread keeping her family as one entity but also aided people all around her, in whatever little way she could. Though her true being belonged to the spiritual world, she placed aside time for the people who were truly deprived. Determination and strong-will were attributes that were associated with both Clara and her mother Nivea, these distinct features that they displayed carved a niche in this world. Nivea was a driven feminist unrelenting in her battle for securing â€Å"the vote for women† in elections. For more than ten long years she fought to the uplift of women in the suffragette movement. She was a force to be reckoned with, permitting not even her numerous pregnancies to come in the way of her ultimate goal. She takes an unprecedented decision of keeping Rosa away from the vulgar traffic of the world. Clara, the precocious and clairvoyant, was her favorite daughter. Clara too was filled with the milk of human kindness. She put her heart and soul into teaching the peasant women at Tres Marias. Transito soto was delineated by Allende as a character unparallel in history. She made a cooperative for the most trodden section of the society-the prostitutes. And it was only she who made escape of Alba feasible putting her life her money at stake. Other kind and strong hearted individuals included Ferula, the sister of Clara’s husband (Esteban Trueba). Ferula devoted her life to the care of her mother whose arthritic condition had transformed her into a â€Å"monolithic being†, she gave up her whole life and slaved till the day her mother passed away. Despite every dark and bitter feeling that crossed her mind, she remained loyal. In the battle against brutality and mercilessness of certain sadistic men, it is only through togetherness that we can come out victorious. All these and more exemplary human beings were the picture of all good that was and still exists in this world. Similarly the brilliantly delicious novel â€Å"Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel† consists of twists and plots that bring forward situations which illustrate several characters’ ability to empathize and care for others. Dr. John Brown too is portrayed as epitome of humanity: he is the most affectionate and caring individual in the novel. He acted as Tita’s, the protagonist’s helping hand during her breakdown which ironically was a result of dealing with her overbearing and stone hearted mother, Mama Elena. He gave hope, life, inspiration and wisdom to the hurting Tita. Full of sympathy, love and warmth he showed her a life where misery and pain were not lurking at every corner, though in the end he did not receive the same romantic attention and admiration he never lost his ability to appreciate and heal anyone. Tita was never shown love but she definitely did impart it, as can be seen through her love and affection towards her nephew, the magnanimous Dr. John, his son and her sister Gertrudis. She was suppressed and abused by her mother Mama Elena, the narrator even described the widowed matriarch of the De La Garza family, as â€Å"the castrating mother who had repressed Tita her entire life† After all this, Tita somehow still found it within her to be by her mother’s side through the days of her deathly illness. The ranch cook, Nacha played the role of Tita’s mother during her love deprived years. She nurtured, taught and guided her in a way her mother never attempted or cared to, she even passed on the secrets of cooking and was the source of the many recipes which entwined the whole story and created mythical events. The recipes, the dishes and what they stood for helped keep create an enchanting novel that is a class apart from traditional ones. As I read the description of how Alba’s experience in the prison, I immediately compared Esteban Garcia’s character to that of Hitler’s. His merciless treatment of innocent people transported me to a place where concentration camps felt for an instant, existent and real. After brutally torturing Alba in ways which would reduce any human to bring an end to his/her, he threw her in a dog house which was used for a relatively short period as â€Å"no one could withstand them very long, at most a few days, before beginning to ramble- lose the sense of things, the meaning of words, and anxiety of passing time- or simply begin to die† Esteban Garcia was perhaps not equally demonic but definitely committed cruel acts that encroached upon several human rights. Inhumane in his treatment of the workers in his estate, he saw them in a light equal to and sometimes even less than animals. He violated several women without remorse and sometimes without even bothering to hide, â€Å"he was afraid of no one†, this thought of his shows how he had lost all touch of the civilized world. He had become a man without a heart and a conscience. To condemn a person to such agony and humiliation is unjustifiable, in these dark flashes described hope is lost, justice non-existent and humanity a myth. â€Å"Mama Elena was merciless, killing with a single blow. But then again, not always. For Tita she had made an exception; she had been killing her a little at a time since she was a child, and she still hadn’t finished her off†. .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85 , .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85 .postImageUrl , .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85 , .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85:hover , .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85:visited , .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85:active { border:0!important; } .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85:active , .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85 .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub55c3bf9fc00c3521b6f4dcca27bff85:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Sprite charts EssayThis particular line I believe captures the true depth of her vindictiveness. To be able to create such misery and grief in her own daughter’s life, making her suffer bit by bit all the pain of losing a soul mate, and making her entire childhood a literal nightmare. She brought fear and terror into the heart of every person she knew; she was unhappy and was set on making everyone experience the sting.at some time in her life, she too was happy, but as of the time when the story was narrated, there were no signs of her flinching from her new found temperament. What was the most appalling and incomprehensible part of all the acts by the three indivi duals was that they performed every single foul act without even a pinch of guilt, remorse or sympathy. Humanity seemed a lost cause for such disturbed souls. Spanning over generations, the books and its characters have highlighted several issues which were present in the past and still remain today, though perhaps to a lesser degree. The question of ‘humanity’ and its existence have been brought up indirectly by both authors, but without concrete evidence of its full demise or complete presence, though there is a mixture of the two. Self-absorption and importance have shadowed love for the human race for a number of people, but there are always glimpses of benevolence. With skill and precision the subject was presented and delivered by the authors, keeping us as the true and ultimate judge of our thoughts and perception on ‘humanity’. In the darkest, vainest moment we think, â€Å"The tragedy, the true catastrophe, is that humanity continues.- Louis Wolfson† In the brightest, most inspiring moment we think, â€Å"You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty- Mahatma Gandhi† Evil and good coexists in any society. We cannot despair of humanity, since we ourselves are human beings. All humanity is one undivided and indivisible family, and each one of us is responsible for the misdeeds of all the others (mahatma Gandhi). Humanity can never fade. It is the guiding light that is eternal, and is there in our hearts to enlighten this mortal world.

Discover How the APA Format Sample Can Help You Write a Narrative Essay

Discover How the APA Format Sample Can Help You Write a Narrative EssayThe APA format sample is a great way to begin writing a story-based narrative essay. With the APA format sample, you can choose a specific APA format that will help your story or novel flow. The format of the sample essay is based on the book 'Telling a Story'. This book is by far the most comprehensive guide to writing a narrative essay. It covers each paragraph in the outline, providing an organized approach to telling a story with particular emphasis on the content and structure of the story. Each paragraph of the APA format sample describes one point, one event, one theme, one character, and one 'narrative turn'. This allows the writer to focus on each specific story thread at a time. The format allows the writer to focus on the key points of a narrative essay. You can see the whole story and what the characters are feeling, what they are thinking, and what their intentions are. The writer can develop the story as it goes along and then finish up with a conclusion. You can choose to tell a single narrative from start to finish or you can take a step back and let the story unfold. If you've never written a narrative before, you can still use the APA format sample. You just need to know when you should stop and when you should start the next story. If you're working on a section of the overall summary, you don't want to start in the middle of a thought-provoking paragraph and end abruptly with an episode that quickly gives way to the next one. For a single incident, you can include an immediate mood, a turning point in the main character's behavior, and even a minor character's appearance or personality. This is a useful tactic for filling in the parts of the overall summary. While you're completing this section, you can find the actual story thread and keep it in your mind as you continue working on the main narrative. The paragraphs in the outline may go along the same way, but the writer may deviate from it a bit if he or she wants to. For example, if the narrator believes he or she has lost a friend or family member, the paragraph might not be all that emotionally disturbing. It may, however, show that the narrator's emotions have changed a bit. It might be filled with some horror memories and sadness.By taking the time to learn how to write a narrative essay, you'll get the best chances for getting accepted to an academic writing program. The APA format sample will give you plenty of pointers and help you find your way in the world of academic writing.

How to Start a Writing Group

How to Start a Writing Group How to Start a Writing Group How to Start a Writing Group By Mark Nichol This is the second post on our series about writing groups. The first one is 5 Reasons to Start a Writing Group. You’ve determined to seriously pursue a writing career, but you feel like you need support and feedback. Although you joined a couple of writing groups, you dropped out of each one because the fit just didn’t feel right. What do you do now? Start your own group, of course. 1. Compose How many members do you want? What level of experience should they have? Should all members be writing for the same market? It’s best to start small (up to half a dozen people), seek people with similar experience levels (writers with one or more published short stories, for example), and select others writing in the same genre or niche and working in the same form, whether short stories or novels as you are. The closer the skills and interests of group members, the more productive it will be. (But be flexible about demographic details such as gender and age.) 2. Propose Design a simple but informative flyer. Specify the details about ideal group composition you have decided on, pick a day and time for regular meetings (the most frequently recommended meeting duration is two hours), and provide contact information. Print copies and post them, but be discriminating: Target writer habitats such as bookstores (especially those that sell used books), cafes, and schools, and avoid blanketing general-purpose bulletin boards. 3. Screen Briefly interview people who contact you. Tell them you’ll check back after you’ve lined up the number of people you want to start with. Take notes and, immediately after the call or email exchange, evaluate them with a simple yes, maybe, or no and perhaps a couple of notes to remind you why you assigned that grade (â€Å"sincere asked about my writing†; â€Å"insecure? but good fit,† â€Å"arrogant†). If a â€Å"no† persists in trying to join, tell them, â€Å"I’m looking for people who aren’t yet quite at your level† or â€Å"I have the number I want, but I’ll keep you in mind if someone drops out.† 4. Form When you have enough â€Å"yes† candidates, consider adding a couple of strong â€Å"maybe† prospects in case one or two people drop out; if you have more defections later, you can always recruit others or disband and start again. If three of you work well together but don’t feel comfortable continuing with one or more of the others, break up the group and start over with that cooperative core. But take care to avoid acting like a clique, and be diplomatic. 5. Locate Choose a setting and stay with it. If you plan to host at your home, stick to that location rather than rotating among everyone’s domiciles. Better yet, meet at a local library (some have small meeting rooms available for just this type of purpose) or a community center, or a quiet cafe. 6. Schedule Contact and confirm your finalists, and if anyone backs out, keep recruiting from the â€Å"maybe† list or from new candidates. Set up the first meeting; if the day and time doesn’t work for someone, jot down their preference and bring it up when the rest of the group convenes for the first time. If the alternate day and time is equally convenient for everybody, consider switching for subsequent meetings. If not, wish the person good luck in finding a group that meets at a better time for them. 7. Assign Ask members to bring an excerpt from a current project something that will take five minutes or less to read so that others will have an immediate grasp of everyone’s skill and style. Cynodictis - Facts and Figures

Cynodictis - Facts and Figures Name: Cynodictis (Greek for in-between dog); pronounced SIGH-no-DIK-tiss Habitat: Plains of North America Historical Epoch: Late Eocene-Early Oligocene (37-28 million years ago) Size and Weight: About two feet long and 5-10 pounds Diet: Meat Distinguishing Characteristics: Long, narrow muzzle; low-slung body    About Cynodictis As has happened with so many other once-obscure prehistoric animals, Cynodictis owes its current popularity to its cameo appearances on the BBC series Walking with Beasts: in one episode, this early carnivore was shown chasing away a juvenile Indricotherium, and in another, it was a quick snack for a passing Ambulocetus (not a very convincing scenario, since this walking whale wasnt much bigger than its presumed prey!) Until recently, it was widely believed that Cynodictis was the first true canid, and thus lay at the root of 30 million years of dog evolution. Today, though, its relationship to modern dogs is more dubious: Cynodictis seems to have been a close relative of Amphicyon (better known as the Bear Dog), a type of carnivore that succeeded the giant creodonts of the Eocene epoch. Whatever its ultimate classification, Cynodictis certainly behaved like a proto-dog, chasing down small, furry prey on the boundless plains of North America (and possibly digging them out of shallow burrows as well).

Human behavior as it relates to safety Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Human behavior as it relates to safety - Essay Example Theory X proves, that most workers do not like work and try to avoid it, so the best incentives for these workers are either forcing them to do something (using total control or methods of punishment), or provide them with additional rewards (financial or tangible). Thus, a worker will keep to safety rules if he receives a reward for this, or if he is punished for not doing this. On the contrary, theory Y states, that a worker is eager to take responsibility, and he can get satisfaction from his work. The main incentives for him are self-affirmation together with tangible and intangible rewards, and even enforcement (in some cases) (Mroszczyk 2012). Thus, a worker usually keeps to the safety rules, if he is satisfied with his job, or if the companys management motivates him to do so. Theory Z differs from the previous theories, as it suggests a brand new approach to treating and motivating workers. This theory suggests to put emphasis on care about every worker as a person, attract them to group decision making and organize constant feedback between workers and managers. Thus, a worker himself is attracted to make decisions on his safety and is encouraged to do so for the sake of himself and his personality. Psychologists proved, that increasing attention to a worker, holding a constant dialogue between him and his leaders, encouraging him think differently are better methods to increase safety at a working place, than to use incentives or enforcement (Geller 2001, Hofmann and Morgeson 1999). Thus, theory Z is the best for predicting a workers behavior towards safety. Hofmann, D. A., Morgeson, F. P. (1999). Safety-related behavior as a social exchange: The role of perceived organizational support and leader–member exchange. Journal of Applied Psychology, 84(2),

Glengarry Glen Ross Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Glengarry Glen Ross - Essay Example Jack Lemmon was awarded the Volpi Cup for the best actor on the basis of his acting in this film, even though this film did not make its mark as a commercially successful film (IMDb, 2013). This film is a depiction of two days in the lives of four salesmen who belongs to the real estate business industry. The corporate office acquires and sends a trainer to increase the level of motivation among the four salesmen. The trainer delivers an immensely harsh speech along with tough targets for all of the four in order to remain employed. The whole story is related to the strife of four salesmen to remain employed in their office. The tagline of this film suggests that it is the story of every individual who works for a living (Rovi, 2013). The gigantic forces of politics and power are intrinsically present in this film. This paper is focused on the analysis of the first scene of the film and its association with the power which each character contains. It also presents the description of the scene along with the selection of Williamson as the most powerful character in the scene among all of the other characters. Synopsis The first scene of this film discloses the whole direction of the film, except for the climax, from where the strife of salesmen begins. The film begins with Shelley Levene (a real estate salesman) in a phone booth, struggling to contact the doctor who is dealing with his daughter. The booth next to him becomes occupied by Dave Moss trying to attempt a property sale in Rio Rancho Estates. This happens in a Chinese restaurant located in Chicago. Both men come out of the phone booths and make their way to the men’s restroom with tensed behavioral features. Both men start to complain about the types of leads which were given to them by their company with each other (Ebert, 1992). They exit the restroom where Ricky Roma tends to make a successful sale of real estate to a client at the bar, followed by the return of both men in their office where they confront an excitable company representative. The representative is an arrogant businessman named Blake, sent by the owners of the company to motivate the salesmen. Surprisingly, Blake starts to talk trash with each salesman regarding their poor performance in the past and announces a contest among all four salesmen (Brantley, 2012). The proposed contest contains the prize for the best selling salesman in the form of a Cadillac and also proposes that the least selling salesman will be fired from this office. This gives a shock to all three present salesmen on which they complain about the poor leads which they have been getting from their company. On this point, Blake announces some premium leads for sales which will only be given to the best performing salesman (IMDb, 2013). As the new representative puts every salesman in a struggling strive, Shelley meets the boss of their office (Mr. Williamson) regarding the premium leads which are being kept by him. Shelley asks Williams on to provide him with premium leads by which Shelley can get back on his previous record of being a successful salesman. Shelley tries to bribe Williamson of 10 percent of his profit from the premium leads, after attempting several techniques to persuade him.
